Q: What’s involved in setting up a multimedia supplement?
A:
For starters, you’ll need to create great video(s) about yourself. Make one, two or three clips. With your clip(s) stored on your computer, you’re ready to create your online Multimedia Supplement. After a quick registration, you’ll choose between creating a Multimedia Only supplement or a multimedia supplement which also has some textual info about yourself that you complete at our prompts. That would be info you think is worthy of highlighting about yourself, regardless of whether or not it is in your standard application.

Q: Seems time-consuming- why should I take time to do this?
A:
Yes, creating your multimedia supplement is going to take time….but hey, you’ve already spent twelve years preparing for your preferred college, so what’s a little more time?! Here’s also why it makes sense:

Q: Why is there no charge?
A:
We’re a so-called Freemium site. That is, we offer basic service for free and also beneficial premium upgrades at low cost; you choose! The proceeds from premium services enable us to offer basic service for free.

Q: What is the difference between standard video service and premium service?
A:
Basic Service pulls your video files that you store at other sites like YouTube and makes them available here through a process called ‘embedding’. In other words, when you set up your basic service here, you’ll tell our system where to ‘go get’ your video files that are stored elsewhere. YouTube's 'private' setting enbales you to prevent public viewing of your clip. It’s all very easy to set up and we’ll walk you through it. When admissions officers click to see your video clips, our system instantaneously retrieves your video files and displays them as part of your multimedia supplement. Keep in mind though that those sites use heavy file compression which creates ‘lossy’ video- it’s called lossy because there’s lots of quality loss during their compression process. They need to compress files heavily because so many people are uploading and viewing those clips 24/7 (YouTube delivers 100 million videos per day). Our Premium Service clients upload their clips directly to our servers, we ‘transcode’ the clips into a universal video format for fast download to virtually any computer with minimal or no compression. Bottom line: Premium Service clients deliver the highest quality clips to admissions officers.

A: You have a choice: 1) Only people to whom you provide your passcode. That would typically be colleges to which you are applying. You would suggest to them that they view your online multimedia supplement at www.collegesupplement.com and provide your passcode at the same time. 2) You can choose to also be part of the prospective applicants database that admissions officers search when they’re on this site and looking for students with particular attributes that you may have. For example that might be some combination of attributes like GPA, where you live, a particular sport, etc. Schools, and even the country’s top institutions, need to balance the mix of their incoming student population using a variety of factors and they sometimes actively seek-out the students that help them achieve that balance for each incoming class.
