Welcome. My name is Steve Metzman and I am proud to be part of the team providing college admissions professionals with an easy means of getting a closer look at applicants. Equally important is giving applicants a tool that levels the playing field by enabling students to personally present themselves to admissions professionals regardless of financial resources.
The college admissions process is growing more competitive and more complex each year. Approximately 2 million students applied to college in the 2006-07 school year. Studies have shown that while the number of college applicants is drastically increasing from year to year, many of the country’s schools are not increasing the size of their entering classes, and the most selective are accepting as few as 9% of their applicants. The admissions process can be a trying time for students, parents, and counselors. It is also difficult for admissions professionals to get to know their applicants as well as might be possible by seeing the candidate in action.
The traditional boundaries of the college admissions process may be expanded with current technology. For this reason, we have decided to dedicate our time and resources to developing a product of value to admissions professionals and applicants alike. We have spoken at length with admissions professionals about the challenges they face and the technological advancements they would embrace. CollegeSupplement.com is a groundbreaking tool designed exclusively to connect the words and numbers on a student’s college application to the face and voice of the individual behind them, providing a personal expression of the candidate’s full potential. Our core functionality is available free of charge to both students and admissions officers, does not require any additional software and can be integrated into any admissions technology platform. Admissions officers are able to literally see and hear each applicant, allowing for a deeper assessment of their non-academic qualities – character, passion, ambition – which can otherwise be difficult to convey with mere words and numbers on a traditional college application.
